A polished listing is not the same as a verified booking. Before paying, identify who is selling the programme, what is included, which terms apply and what evidence you will retain.
This checklist is an editorial planning tool. It does not certify a retreat, prove fraud, guarantee recovery of money or replace legal, medical, insurance or financial advice.
The 12 checks before payment
Identify the organiser
Record the business or trading name, who will receive payment, the contact address and the route for questions or complaints.
- Who signs the contract?
- Who appears on the payment page?
- Is there a working contact route?
Confirm the exact property
Ask for the full location and confirm whether the accommodation, classes and meals are provided at the same property.
- Full address or clear location
- Property name
- Indoor and outdoor facilities
Identify the facilitator
Request the full name, role, language and the sessions the named facilitator is expected to lead.
- Named practitioner
- Actual teaching role
- Substitution policy
Check claimed qualifications
Look for the issuing organisation, the scope of a claimed credential and a profile that can be checked independently.
- Credential name
- Issuer
- Scope and relevance
Request the real schedule
Separate confirmed sessions from examples. Ask which activities are optional and what happens when weather or staffing changes.
- Daily timetable
- Free time
- Weather alternative
Confirm the room
Verify private or shared occupancy, bathroom, stairs, ventilation, noise, connectivity and any room supplement.
- Exact room category
- Occupancy
- Accessibility details
Confirm meals
Check the number of included meals, arrival and departure days, drinks, supplements and how dietary needs are communicated.
- Meals per day
- Allergy communication
- Extra charges
Review transport
Confirm the pickup point, timing, luggage allowance, route, contact method and whether the transfer is included.
- Arrival instructions
- Transfer provider
- Delay procedure
Calculate the total cost
Add the package, room supplement, transport, baggage, insurance, formalities, activities, connectivity and contingency.
- Currency and taxes
- Mandatory extras
- Optional extras
Read cancellation terms
Check the deposit, balance date, participant cancellation, organiser cancellation, venue changes and whether a future credit replaces a refund.
- Deposit terms
- Refund conditions
- Change of venue or teacher
Understand wellbeing boundaries
Distinguish general classes and coaching from regulated healthcare. Do not rely on a retreat listing for diagnosis or treatment.
- Scope of programme
- Emergency limitations
- Professional advice where needed
Save booking evidence
Keep the listing, price, inclusions, terms, correspondence, payment confirmation and the merchant name shown on the transaction.
- Saved terms
- Receipts and emails
- Final confirmation

Pause before paying if
- the organiser or payment recipient is not clearly identified;
- the exact property is withheld without a clear reason;
- the facilitator is unnamed or the advertised role cannot be explained;
- the cancellation terms are unavailable before payment;
- the final price changes without a written breakdown;
- medical or guaranteed transformation claims replace clear programme information;
- pressure is used to force immediate payment before details are supplied;
- payment is requested through a method that makes the transaction difficult to trace.
A warning sign does not by itself prove fraud. It is a reason to pause, verify and obtain clearer written information.
Evidence to save before paying
Offer
Save the live listing, package dates, room type, inclusions and price.
Contract
Save the terms, cancellation policy and the organiser's identity.
Payment
Keep the receipt, merchant name, confirmation and correspondence.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission advises travellers to obtain offer details, research the company and pay attention to payment methods. FTC online-shopping guidance also recommends keeping records such as receipts and confirmation emails. These are general U.S. consumer resources, not a statement of rights in every jurisdiction.

Does this checklist certify a retreat?
No. It helps organise questions and evidence, but it does not certify an organiser, property or practitioner.
Is a marketplace listing enough verification?
No single listing answers every question. Check the current organiser, room, schedule, inclusions, payment recipient and terms.
Does a low price prove a scam?
No. A low price alone does not prove fraud, but it can justify additional checks of the property, organiser, inclusions and payment terms.
Should I rely on reviews alone?
Reviews can be one input. Also verify the current contract, property, organiser, schedule and payment details.
Does Wanderlust Retreats handle bookings or refunds?
No. Booking, payment, cancellation and refund requests must be handled through the provider shown in the transaction.
