Practical planning guidance. Verify current airline, entry, health and provider requirements before departure.

Pre-Flight Reset

A calm, realistic checklist for documents, communication boundaries, packing, airport preparation and the first day after arrival.

Last checked: 12 August 2026No medical prescriptionsNo affiliate links on this guide

A useful pre-departure routine reduces avoidable decisions. It does not need a rigid 48-hour protocol, a product purchase or a promise to “reset” the nervous system.

Adapt this checklist to the traveller, route, airline, destination, health needs and retreat rules. The page does not claim a specific percentage reduction in stress or first-hand experience from repeated Bali flights.

One week before departure

Verify documents

Check passport, visa or entry route, arrival forms, tickets, insurance and accommodation confirmation.

Confirm the first transfer

Record the provider, meeting point, contact method, luggage terms and delayed-arrival process.

Review health needs

Consult a qualified professional where vaccines, medication, pregnancy, mobility or medical conditions are relevant.

Check retreat rules

Confirm arrival time, classes, equipment, dress, dietary communication, connectivity and cancellation terms.

For Indonesia, use the official immigration portal to identify the correct entry route. The official portal also states that an arrival card is required and can be submitted within the three days before arrival. Check official Indonesian immigration information.

Communication boundaries

Choose boundaries that fit the traveller’s responsibilities rather than copying an absolute digital-detox rule.

  • Nominate a work contact where appropriate.
  • State the actual absence dates in an out-of-office message.
  • Explain whether messages will be monitored or not.
  • Schedule a handover for genuinely time-sensitive work.
  • Keep an emergency communication channel available to trusted contacts.
  • Do not surrender devices or access credentials to retreat staff without a clear, secure reason.

Example out-of-office text

Thank you for your message. I am away from [date] to [date] and will respond after I return. For urgent work matters within this period, please contact [name or team mailbox].

Documents and practical essentials

No fixed amount of cash is prescribed. Decide the amount according to lawful entry needs, provider payment methods, security and personal circumstances.

Retreat packing

CategoryQuestions before packing
Yoga equipmentDoes the retreat provide mats, blocks, straps and towels?
ClothingWhat climate, dress rules, laundry and activities apply?
FootwearAre paths paved, steep, wet, rocky or temple-specific?
Sun and insectsWhat current professional guidance and destination advice apply?
WaterDoes the property provide safe refill water?
TechnologyIs a laptop necessary, permitted and securely stored?
AccessibilityWhat aids, medication storage or support must be arranged?

Use the full retreat packing list to create a destination-specific version. A personal yoga mat, power bank, Kindle or camera is optional rather than mandatory.

Sleep and jet lag

Jet lag results from a mismatch between normal daily rhythms and a new time zone. The CDC says travellers can consider gradually adjusting sleep before travel, follow destination sleep and waking routines after arrival, use daytime light, avoid alcohol, drink water and use short daytime naps when needed. Medicine or sleep aids should be discussed with a healthcare provider. Review CDC jet lag guidance.

This guide intentionally does not recommend a melatonin dose or fixed schedule. Individual health conditions, medicine interactions, route and timing matter.

Long journeys and movement

The CDC states that long-distance travel can increase blood-clot risk for some travellers, although the overall risk is generally small and depends on additional risk factors. Travellers with increased risk should speak with a clinician. Review CDC blood-clot travel guidance.

  • Follow current airline safety instructions.
  • Move and stretch when safe and appropriate.
  • Keep necessary medication accessible.
  • Seek individual advice about compression garments or medicines.
  • Know the warning signs described by official health authorities.

Airport and airline preparation

  1. Check the airline’s current online check-in window.
  2. Use the airline’s recommended airport arrival time for the route.
  3. Verify cabin and checked-baggage limits.
  4. Check battery, liquid and medicine rules for all transit airports.
  5. Carry essential documents and medication in hand luggage.
  6. Download confirmations and destination addresses for offline access.
  7. Monitor the flight and transfer before leaving for the airport.

There is no universal requirement to arrive exactly three hours early. Follow the airline and airport instructions for the actual trip.

First day after arrival

Keep the arrival day light. Check in, confirm the next essential step and follow professional advice where sleep, medication or health conditions are involved.

  • Use daylight and destination routines where appropriate.
  • Eat and hydrate according to personal health needs.
  • Avoid driving when fatigued or unfamiliar with local conditions.
  • Do not schedule a non-refundable distant activity immediately after arrival.
  • Contact the accommodation if arrival is delayed.
